Mitad
Mitad (Spanish for “half”) is the artist duo of electronic composer Sal Lo Cascio (Sicily, Italy) and vocalist Katherine Downham (Southend, UK).
Mitad is a fresh and exciting sound that experiments with Deep House, Drum and Bass, R&B and Pop. You can hear the mixture and harmonic balance of each “half” influencing the flow and emotion that radiates throughout their music.
By design their music is rarely created in the same place or space, using the connectedness of modern technology to bridge the barriers of distance and language to collaborate.
Sal was born on the chaotic island of Sicily amongst the volcanic energy of Mount Etna. His passion for music began while listening to records with his mother, watching in amazement as “vinyl span and threw sounds into the air like mysterious toys.” At the age of eight Sal began his own journey into the world of music. In 2000 he moved to London where he found a passion for clubbing and music production becoming heavily influenced by artists such as The Prodigy and Orbital.
Katherine was born in Southend-on-Sea and spent many of her early years in China and Germany. Her father was a professional disc jockey and her mother a drama and musical production performer. At the age of seven she was introduced to karaoke and has been singing ever since.
In 2016, Sal and Katherine came together via an online talent website and began composing together before signing to NexGen Music in early 2018.
We are extremely excited about the journey of Mitad as we prepare for BIG things from the duo without borders. Watch this space… :)
