Producer, engineer, DJ, and web designer/developer — Dan "D.A" Clarke is the owner and founder of NexGen Music Group.
Dan was born in White Plains, NY, and immigrated to South East London as a small child. His curiosity and introduction to underground music in the late 80's and early 90's came by way of niche record shops, and London's pirate radio airwaves. Witnessing firsthand the evolution of the early Dance, Rave, Hardcore, Breakbeat, and later Jungle/Drum & Bass scenes of a new era, and with a strong family music background providing a positive and creative conduit, it was inevitable that Dan would form a relationship with music that would later see him as a respected influencer and facilitator in underground music.
Like most aspiring DJ/producers, D.A cut his teeth in his bedroom studio. His first dabble with music management was setting up a mini-audio production company on college campus, offering the opportunity to sharpen his music production and engineering skills while learning the art of artist management and talent development. By day, Dan was studying and sowing the seeds of a professional career, and producing TV commercial/advertising jingles for recognized British brands. By night, he was doing the rounds at legendary club nights and venues such as the Ministry of Sound, Hippodrome (nights run by DJ Chris Paul), Lazerdrome, Astoria, and Equinox.
A pivotal moment in D.A's personal journey with music came on a free CD compilation in a '98 issue of DJ Mag. The compilation contained quality underground music by artists representing previously unheard genres, such as Downtempo, Chill, and Deep/Chill-House. Labels represented on the CD included Naked Music, Chez, and Nu Wave Music. These new influences immediately expanded Dan's palette, inspiring him to expand the production company into a record label that would eventually include the wide array of musical genres and sub-genres that NexGen Music represents today.
In 2001, D.A re-branded the label as NexGen Music, and in 2003 moved the label across the Atlantic to Brooklyn, NY, where he spent several years prior to moving to the nation's capital, Washington D.C. Now more than 15 years later since the journey first began, and armed with a robust catalog of artists, musicians, and engineers, NexGen Music has broken the borders of just producing and releasing music, going on to successfully secure a number of film, TV, and interactive entertainment placements and engagements, with works that include sound design for productions with organizations such as the BBC, Lionsgate Films, Bravo, VH1, and OTC Films.
D.A, is an ever active figure, devoting much of his time to artist development, philanthropy, and his branding/web design & development agency. NexGen Music is also affiliated and on the roster of world-renowned Andy Kushner Entertainment Design, and a co-organizer of the DC Electronic Dance Meetup Group which boasts a membership of over 4,000 local EDM and underground music enthusiasts in Washington, D.C.
